Throughout history, the Jewish people have used the
Jewish calendar and life cycle to mark the passage of time. And,
as we celebrate our special days and occasions, we try to fulfill
the concept of "hiddur mitzvah," or glorification of the
mitzvah (commandment). This means that, whenever we do an
act as part of the Jewish way of life, we do that act to the best
of our ability, using the most beautiful ritual items that we have.
Here, the artist has adapted designs--both simple and complex--from
the American patchwork tradition to create beautiful and vivid designs
that celebrate Jewishness, Judaism, and life.
